I was thinking how nice it is that despite having gained her ticket to independence, Talia still needed you! My boys will be able to simply press the GPS "voice guidance" button and have some unknown woman's voice (somewhat sexy because it will always belong to a stranger?) provide the directions on their first date.

Great story! I'm looking forward to reading more. -SC

Wow, this sounds scary. I wonder if our parents were just as nervous about us learning to drive. I remember my dad asking if I really needed to hit EVERY manhole cover on the street as I was driving (my dad was not the patient type.)

Wow--for some reason is odd to think of Talsie having her license, even though Joe has had his for quite a while now. It was very cool that you were able to talk her down from the tower and I can picture you making a bit of a spectacle of yourself in the process. Interesting to hear that parallel parking is no longer part of the driving test. Come to think of it, I don't think I had to parallel park during my test in the early 80's. Was that part of the test in your day??
I just paralled parked yesterday in front of a somewhat crowded pizza place with seating out front. THere was plenty of room, but it was still a bit stressful with my big van and several people right there. I also was at the beach a few weeks back and saw a guy pull his car out of a spot with literally an inch or two on either end of his car to spare. The amazing part is that someone told me that he had pulled his car IN to that same amount of space earlier that afternoon.
The part about Joe not knowing the same of 4th street is hilarious, but totally understandable. My kids are the same way and I'm sure the fact that it is a numbered street had something to do with it. If it were called "Main St." and he didn't know the name of it, then I think the story goes to another level!! Something about that area confuses me too and I still am a bit unsure about getting to your house each time---though I always seem to make it. I also get confused for some reason as to which side of the freeway your house is on---even though I do know how to get there (pretty much). I think I always thought it was on the east side, but it is actually on the west----or is it the other way around???
