Pause for purpose is about slowing down and noticing what’s extraordinary, humorous and meaningful in the everyday. I write about everyday events in my life that make me stop and think about what’s important to me, what adds value and depth to my life.

Who am I? I’m Mark Krahling – a parent, a husband, a restaurant owner, a part-time bread baker and life coach, a former teacher, and a writer. This blog is, I suppose, the result of combining all of those roles. My search to find “what I want to do with my life” has led me to writing and blogging. In some of my previous careers, I felt stuck and unfulfilled and complained about it to myself and others. Finally, I realized that it was up to me to find not just a career, but a life that is fulfilling and to surround myself with people who bring positive energy and creativity. My hope is that this blog will become like a salon where everyone offers their opinions and creativity and no one goes home empty-handed.

These are my objectives for readers of this blog:

  • That these stories, quotes and pictures will help you to stop, think, and be in the moment
  • That readers will participate in the discussion – leave comments that tell about something similar that has happened to you, what feelings and thoughts the story brings up in you, your reaction to what you read, whether or not you agree with the opinions expressed by myself and others
  • That readers will laugh – that they will enjoy a kind of humor that isn’t mean-spirited, directed at others, or “in your face”, but rather gentle, positive, with maybe a little message thrown in.
  • And finally – that this blog will in some small way make a change in the world – that instead of racing around in hopes of achieving goals that are sometimes defined by others, we will slow down and live a life of purpose – a purpose defined by ourselves.
